Jet City Auxiliary is a supporters group for the Seattle Sounders Women in the W League. We believe in passionately supporting the team during home and away matches.
Jet City Auxiliary, or JCA, was created in 2012. We are an open group consisting of people from all backgrounds, families, men, women, and even children. We encourage you to join us in supporting the Seattle Sounders Women in however you see fit, whether that is singing, clapping, waving flags, and holding up two poles alongside us, or by simply cheering on the team during matches from your seat.
Never Surrender Our Spirit!
SOUNDERS WOMEN vs SEATTLE PACIFIC FALCONS
Thursday, April 10th, 2014
GAMETIME: 7PM, Interbay Soccer Field
PREGAME: Mulleady’s Irish Pub is just a short jaunt across the tracks and has fantastic Irish Pub fare. Happy Hour runs between 4 & 6PM with solid $4 Made-in-Seattle Pints & $6 food specials.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Parking is limited in and around Interbay, get their early to secure a good spot.
SCARVES: We will have a limited supply of JCA scarves available for purchase at the match, they are $20 and when we sell out, they will be gone forever. Grab your slice of Sounders Women Supporter history at the match!
MARCH TO THE MATCH: Start making your way toward the Stadium a half-hour before kickoff (6:30). Find the Jet City End (new location!), grab a song card and a two-pole, and get ready to have an awesome time!
JCA END: At Interbay, there is no “official” JCA End, however, we will be bringing the noise from the West end of the Stadium, ground level. All tickets are valid in the Jet City End, if you want to join in the fun, COME ON OVER!!! We’ll teach you the songs & may even let you bang on the drum. Seriously, there has to be a better drummer than Bonnell somewhere in the Sounders Women Nation!
INTERBAY: Interbay has an interesting tie in Sounders Women history. Our current Sounders Women franchise is actually a combination of two older clubs, Sounders Select & Seattle Hibernian Saints. The Saints were the initial Women’s Premier soccer side in Western Washington and made Interbay home for several years before moving to Starfire when owner Bobby Lane joined forces with Sounders Select owner Adrian Hanauer to create the Sounders Saints in 2006. The rest is history. Thursday night, we will be playing on the hallowed ground in which our Spirit was forged. NEVER SURRENDER OUR SPIRIT ladies!!! #NSOS
LAST YEAR: SPU 0:3 SSW Last year’s matchup against SPU was one full of learning. We finally got to meet the “UW Girls” and got a bit of a preview of the flash & style that they brought to our team. We also saw a hint of the inconsistency that would foreshadow their inclusion to the team last year.Youngster Maddy Schultz stayed up past her bedtime to get the scoring going in a second half that was all-Sounders.
PRESEASON: 2014 is finally upon us! This game, our first preseason test, will be an interesting one to watch. With many of the 2013 troop having gone pro and abroad, new faces & names abound on this year’s squad. Cohesion will be in great demand against a talented, battle-tested SPU perennial D-II National Title contender. Our young, collegiate talent are not available until May, so this will be a good shot for our older (and younger) talent to solidify spots on the team.
SPU SOUNDER ALUM: Izzy Farrell has transferred from UW to SPU this offseason. The former U-18 & U-20 National Midfielder never quite found her groove with the Huskies and transferred to SPU in January. Pacy & creative, she will be one to watch for the Falcons.
CONK CONNECTION: Kentwood Alum Niki Bonnell will once again do battle with a young Conk Thursday night. Former Kentwood standout and captain Laura Moore is a bionic Sophomore striker with the Falcons. In 2013, Moore led SPU with eight goals and earned herself an All-GNAC first team selection. Her playing style is much like Bonnell’s: forceful, commanding, smart, with a high work-rate. It should be quite the battle between the two Conks Wednesday night.
FALCON COACHES: Chuck Sekyra has compiled an outstanding 197-29-17 record in his eleven years at SPU. He has led the team to eleven straight NCAA Tournament Appearances and even won the Division II National Title in 2008.
Assistant Coach Chalise Baysa has been a staple in the Sounders Women’s attack from 2004 through 2011. The Oregon Duck graduated as the school’s all-time leading scorer and was a three-time All Pac10 selection. She played several seasons in the Blue & Green, and even travelled the Asian World-Cup Qualifying Circuit this summer with the Philippine National Team. As always, Cha-Cha will make for great conversation after the match!
FALCON STANDOUTS: Sophomore #11 Shayla Page (@thatcrayshay) is the player to watch out for Thursday night. The Eastlake High School defender & All-GNAC Second-teamer led another stingy SPU defense that’s given up less than a goal a match the last two seasons. “Cray Shay” was a high school teammate of Sounders Midfielder Allie Beahan and former Sounder & recent Houston Dash signee Lindsay Elston (@lindsayelston21).
Other standouts include Junior Midfielder #9 Riley Dopps (@ridopps9) & Defender # 17 Josie Graybeal (@jotes_magotes) who both helped lead the Falcons to an NCAA-D2 Second Round Appearance in 2013. Dopps was a GNAC Top Freshman and Graybeal was an 1st Team All-Region defender in 2011.
Other studs include Senior Defender #2 Mackenzie Laird and Junior Midfielder #24 Annie Thomas.
GET TO KNOW THE SPU KEEPER: With the graduation of our favorite Twin-Sister (Natalie Harold), the SPU Keeper Corp is an open battle at the moment Junior #19 Alexa Hughes (@Lex_Hughes ), Sophomore #0 Courtney Shearer (@courts_0), & Freshman #23 Laura Shdo will be duking it out all Spring to secure the starting spot. While Harold dominated the time in the goal mouth in years past, SPU’s other keepers are not shabby.
#19 Alexa Hughes is fantastic communicator and in her four starts in 2012, she recorded two shutouts. She upped that trend in 2013, having maintained a clean-sheet in each of her three starts. She is a calming force in the back and may settle down any chaos our girls bring. Some interesting Lex Hughes facts: She is a Harry Potter fan, does Hot Yoga, & believes that teammate #17 Josie Graybeal has “absolutely NO @$$.” Barring any suprises, Alexa is the likely starter Thursday night.
#0 Courtney Shearer is a Freshman out of Oregon who played in the Rush (BOO!!!) organization. Courtney did not start any games her Freshman year, but in the game she did participate, she held a clean sheet. She is athletic, quick, & strong and has a very bright future ahead of her. Fun items of interest discovered through her twitter account: Courtney enjoys dancing like Emma Stone in EasyA when her roommate is out, likes Data from Goonies, & guys with tattoos, & is, well, I’m pretty certain…flat out crazy.
#23 Laura Shdo is difficult to dig up dirt on & keeps her online presence hidden well. #smartgirl
Come on down to Interbay Thursday night, it should be another fun one!
NEVER SURRENDER OUR SPIRIT!
