Support your Sounders

Jet City Auxiliary is a supporters group for the Seattle Sounders Women in the W League.  We believe in passionately supporting the team during home and away matches.

Jet City Auxiliary, or JCA, was created in 2012.  We are an open group consisting of people from all backgrounds, families, men, women, and even children.  We encourage you to join us in supporting the Seattle Sounders Women in however you see fit, whether that is singing, clapping, waving flags, and holding up two poles alongside us, or by simply cheering on the team during matches from your seat.

HOW MANY COUGS DOES IT TAKE TO WIN AN APPLE CUP? With Defender Niki Bonnell out with a hamstring injury, there is no WSU v UW component in today’s game.  So, hopefully, the answer to this riddle is none.

RAVE GREEN DAWGS: Defender Annie Sittauer is the only UW Alum on the pitch today.  The solid defender was in purple for last year’s draw.  She played solidly, but nearly conceded a PK after a rough tackle inside the box in the second half.  This year will be her first bout against her Alma mater. GO SOUNDERS!

LAST-YEAR’S MATCHUP: In 2013, the two sides battled to a draw.  Goals came from UW/Sounder Lindsay Elston in the first half, & Defender Brigit Reder in the second.  Both girls are on to professional careers in 2014.  Elston playing for the NWSL’s Houston Dash and Reder with Östersunds FK in Sweden.  For a recap, see GoalWa.Net’s writeup here.

MAY FOURTH, TWENTY-TWELVE: The 2012 preseason matchup with the Huskies was a sight to behold. Nearly half the starting-11 for the USWNT put on a show as we cruised to a 3:1 victory over the girls from Montlake. Goals from Alex Morgan, Veronica Perez, & Lyndsey Patterson highlighted the night. After a scoreless first half, Morgan slammed home a beautiful hooking corner from Megan Rapinoe. A few minutes later, Hope Solo found herself playing some over-confident “Keeper Sweeper” and was burnt on an opportunistic counter attack by Hillary Zevenbergen, who cleanly netted the ball behind the scrambling superstar. In the 70th, Perez slammed another beautiful Rapinoe corner into the back netting. Then, in the closing minutes, “Mighty Mouse” got loose inside the box and sent the Dawgs packing. It was a fun night that will not be soon forgotten. That first night the stars shone bright in Seattle.

UW THIS SPRING (3-1):

  • UW 4:1 SeattleU (Amanda Perez, Megan Rawlings, Jaclyn Softli, Kate Bennett)
  • UW 0:4 Seattle Reign (our Lyndsey Patterson scored for the Reign)
  • UW 3:0 UPortland (Jaclyn Softli, Becca Schoales, Charlee Garcia)
  • UW 2:0 WWU (Kate Bennett, Jaclyn Softli)

Photo courtesy GoHuskies.comDAWGS TO WATCH: The Husky Women are wrapping up an impressive spring, whose only blemish comes from the team which shall not be named.  That being said, UW has posted two shutouts, & only given up 1 goal, against the run of play, when playing a non-professional team this spring.  The most impressive win came in a 3-0 blowout against the perennial Division-I powerhouse Portland Pilots.  Goals have come from 6 different players this spring.  Mexican National #17 Amanda Perez(Younger sister of former Sounder Veronica Perez), #30 Kate Bennett (Bellevue HS), & #10 Jaclyn Softli (Eastlake HS) have been the most deadly in this very effective attack.

MONTLAKE SOUNDER: Only 1 Husky has currently signed with the Sounders thusfar, and its our well-known & beloved Megan Kufeld.  Kufeld, as you might expect from a Sounder Keeper, is a model student-athlete. The Fremont, California native was her high school’s valedictorian, won the UW Hard Hat award for effort in the weight room, and has continued her excellence in the classroom at the U. In the build up to the 2012 season, Kufeld showed well enough to create a GK controversy in Montlake, threatening what many thought was a sure position for Senior CAPTAIN Kari Davidson. Kufeld has attended USWNT Camps for the U14, U15, U17, U18, & U20 teams.

While it may be longly debated, club before country or country before club? But Friday begs the question, club before college? Where does Kufeld’s allegiance lie? While we expect her to compete at her best, a true Sounder might let in a late goal if the game is tight (think Jimmy Neilson). …anyhow, the JCA firmly believes in #clubB4college J  Megan is clearly smart enough to know she must make some nice saves, show well, then let in a goal or THREE.

Competing for time with Kufeld is Junior  #26 Tori Burns (@toriburns26) & #00 Madi McNamara. Burns is an Oakland native and skater-girl. She is a tough and very outgoing girl, but had some problems last year keeping her phone from breaking.  McNamara comes from Jesuit HS in Portland & played her club ball with FC Portland.  Need I say more?

Come on down to Starfire Friday night; it should be another fun one!

NEVER SURRENDER OUR SPIRIT!
